Overview

Living in Adrian

Adrian is a city and the county seat of Lenawee County, Michigan, founded by Addison Comstock in 1826 and incorporated as a village in 1836 and as a city in 1853. Michigan's first operating railroad, a horse-drawn line between Adrian and Toledo, ran here in 1836. Around the turn of the 20th century Adrian was called the "fence capital of the world" after J. Wallace Page developed a successful woven wire fence, and the Lion automobile was built here. Nicknamed the Maple City, Adrian is home to Adrian College and Siena Heights University, the historic Croswell Opera House, and the Adrian City Band, founded in 1838. The River Raisin winds through town, with trails at Heritage and Trestle parks.
