Overview
Waterville was platted in 1830 on the west bank of the upper Maumee River, opposite what was then known as Pray's Falls, and was established in 1832. It was long a village before incorporating as a city in 2011. The community sits on the Maumee River and was formerly on the route of the Miami and Erie Canal — a legacy still visible in the Interurban Bridge ruins and the historic rail line that once ran between Waterville and Grand Rapids.
